Take a look at Talstar (bifenthrin). You can buy the concentrate on Amazon for a reasonable price.
Lots of folks say this is what the exterminator companies use. Not sure if that is correct, but it is popular with bug haters.

Talstar will kill just about any bug it lands on. People think that mosquitos only congregate in places that hold water, but this isn't the case. They will spend their days anywhere they can get a break from the heat. This includes all plants, under the siding of your home, wreaths your wife puts on the front door, under benches, etc. Spraying these areas with Talstar every couple of weeks is your best option to get rid of those frickers.

Comes in granuals and should be done if you own a pet or kid. Cuts down on fleas, ticks, and ants.
Buy some extra and give it to your neighbors. Creates a buffer area around your yard. Did this when I lived in a neighborhood and never had a single ant pile.

To have long lasting effect, pair it with an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) like Archer
The IGR product will limit insects ability to grow to maturity making them incapable of reproduction. This is the best way to have long lasting control without spraying on the reg
