A gun show dealer will never be competitive with a Wal-Mart, Academy, or other high volume dealer. Most of those guys don't even make enough doing it to make selling guns a full time gig. They're paying more for guns than giant dealers who get special pricing and don't move enough volume to play the small margin game. That said, if the show wasn't profitable it would eventually die..so there is a market. I think everyone that hangs out on online gun forums knows at this point that gun shows aren't the great thing you remember them as. I think that perception is skewed too, as most memories are. "Back in the day" ammo was cheap in general, SKS rifles were $60 everywhere, 91/30s were $80, AKs were $250, etc. Those days are over thanks to inflation and supply drying up. I remember seeing as many jerky, dreamcatcher and jewelry vendors back in the 90s as well.

We also used to have only one every quarter or so in town. Now it seems like there is one every month and its become diluted.
Yup. In the 90's I could get a russian forged SKS at the gun shows for $100. Tins of that ammo, steel core, was like a $100 or so and yes, the AK's were $250. Then Clinton closed the importation of them and I don't think they were ever reopened to the same level. Too bad, there was some real cheap stuff that was good.
