So even if Lange is available for that 3rd game Friday you still go with Poche just because he hasn't pitched yet?
No. It's to keep him available for game 1 of the championship series.

In his two postseason outings combined, Walker is 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA in 15.2 innings with one walk and 16 strikeouts.
This wasn't a hard decision for PM

If you go by recent results, one could argue that Poche has not been very sharp lately and Walker has been the better pitcher.
If Poche were to start game 3 and lose, it really puts LSU in a hole come the championship series. You will have started Lange on Saturday and then run him back out there on 3 days rest come Wednesday. I just think it's an unnecessary risk all the way around. Lange can start Friday and safely comeback and start the game 3 Wednesday.
You realize that if we lose the first two games of the championship series there is no game three, right?

Actually what he said is that Walker was suppose to pitch the second game...but he was really sore after a practice game Tuesday and that might not happen. If he can go he will but otherwise Poche will go and Walker will start the next.

any chance Walker got Mestepeyed after super game 2?

Its our best bet to win this damn thing. Throw our two hottest guys games 1 and 2. Then poche with our staff behind him against a fourth pitcher (oregon st's fifth pitcher) ..........odds ill take any day.

Why would Poche go to the bullpen in the event of a best case scenario (Lange and Walker both win)?
Is he swapping roles with Gilbert?

What I don't get is Mainieri saying something about using Poche out of the bullpen.
Has he given up on Bush and decided Gilbert's a capable starter?
That's the part that really confuses me.

Do you ever know what you're talking about?

I take it as if Walker gets rocked really early, Poche would be inserted.

If the stage gets too big for the true freshman too early, Poche comes in.

Will be very curious to see how disciplined they are against Lange's curveball in the dirt or off the plate. He gets lots of swings and misses on that pitch, which often is NOT a strike.
When teams do this why not have Lange throw it for strikes because it's almost impossible to know where that ball will land. They would have to give up on the curve completely or at least most of the team would of that is the strategy for the opposing team. So if they choose not to swing at the curve, start throwing it for strikes regularly. They would then have to change the approach. Once they change the approach then start throwing it in the dirt.

So Paul is planning to throw Lange in the third game in that situation?
How much time between the end of the 8 team tournament and the beginning of the championship series?

No man, you worry about that when you get there. Lange will not pitch game 3.

Its coaches speak imo. I felt he was saying the same about poche coming in if walker gets rocked early. But he doesnt intend on actually doing it.

He would if it would get us to 2-0.

This is all a bunch of yappping but If walker doesn't make it out of the 1st/2nd inning he would then be available and on 4 days rest by the semifinal.
to answer your question in regards to the next time walker would pitch hypothetically after the semifinal that would again be 4 days. believe it or not bullpen depth is going to be a big deal to win CWS and we have it. the deepest IMO, and I'm not worried about the stage being too big for Eric.

pretty sure he is confident in walker lasting longer than 2 or 3 innings. And if he does that, the normal staff would come into play. Just my opinion

He will still be in a lose/lose situation with some of his critics here though. If LSU doesn't win, there will be 20 threads saying that he should have started Poche.
So, in a thread about a report on who our starter will be in the second game of the CWS, you somehow found it relevant to bash LSU fans who criticize Mainieri? What could that possibly have to do with whether Walker starts game 2?

The reason I have some doubt about Walker is because I heard PM say Walker was going to throw "away from here"...meaning on a field somewhere I guess either today or Saturday to test it.
PM can't just put him out there and assume he will be 100% Monday after his last bullpen.
Walker is the guy because imo he has better control than Poche. You simply cannot walk this Beaver team or you are asking for trouble.
Walks are my biggest concern for Lange tonorrow. 3 walks or less and I love our chances.
