When I applied in a few cities and took interviews everyone brought up football and how they enjoy watching LSU play. Every single person mentioned how they've always wanted to go to a night game at LSU and tailgate as well. We have a pretty cool image is what I learned

Academically, no one thought any different of LSU than any other state school.

quote:

Culturally, most out-of-staters perceive Louisiana as a big New Orleans with swamps around it, where everybody parties and does the Mardi Gras thing year round, and LSU, like the Saints, gets the spillover sentiment. They think we spend weekends at Tiger Stadium during the season, and partying in NOLA or fishing in the bayous in the offseason. Which, generally, is considered in a positive manner, not as an insult.

Oh god this too

I play up the Southerner act sometimes to frick with people

Why do you people say frick?

LSU is a land grant school and is seen as pretty decent with decent alumni network, like other state schools that are not public ivies (UVA, Michigan, UNC, CAL-Berk, and if I may, Texas). They are like a poor man's Texas A&M, but with "diversity" and not the weirdo cult like following and perverse traditions.
