re: Mounting TV to outdoor wall that is vinyl siding

My plan is to build a box to mount the TV in and mount the box to studs with a 3/4" gap between the vinyl and the box. I have some 6" Hanger bolts for mounting.

Not a bad idea at all. Even if you didn't build a 'box' per se, you could still add a piece of plywood mounted on spacers that would keep the tv mount out away from the siding.
