Come on dude, the hiatus was from late 2012 to mid-2013. Stop acting like it was right before the final roster was due.
When he came back, the World Cup was more than a year away. And Jurgen had no problem giving him the keys on a Gold Cup squad that had 7 members who would go on to play in the World Cup.
And as for the cohesion aspect... Timmy Chandler constantly flaked out of USMNT duty, still made the roster for Brazil.

That is right in the middle of qualification. I respect you man but come on, that's the whole point. He ditched the USMNT during this time.
