How can someone "clearly" be adjudicated the Lakers best player in 83 or 84 when he wasn't even the leading scorer on the team and accounted for more TOs incurred than Kareem? Kareem was also the team's best low-post defender leading the team in blocks and led the team in PER in both playoffs those years. I simply don't buy that argument.

Magic produced more win shares than Kareem from 1982 until his retirement. Magic also had a higher VORP every year starting in 1982.

Just looking at the traditional stats, Magic in 1982 (age 22) averaged 18.6/9.6/9.5 and led the league in steals per game while shooting 54% from the field
