How long was Pat Henry here? He probably had 15-20 years in the Teacher's Retirement System & could "retire" from LSU and draw a decent amount from that plus a full salary at a new place.
Doesn't always have to be some super-secret intrigue.

There are good reasons to "invest" in sports besides ROI based on revenues.
Ask Stanford (Which wins the all sports trophies years in and out) or the Ivies (which have incredibly high student participation %'s). Just spit balling here, but it's possible these schools could teach LSU a few lessons about the benefits of a well rounded education experience. They seem to think this approach improves alumni giving and growing an endowment.
