Regarding the O line depth

I know depth at that poaition is quite thin at the moment, but does anyone think Canada can hide it? And the real question is can Etling evade constant pressure from SEC defensive lines throughout the second half of games?
It may be worth it to get a little creative back there with some misdirection and quick passes to keep the heat off of the QB all game.

We're not thin on the O line, just thin at tackle. We are loaded with interior guys...
And you cant "mask" anything with depth, just hope the starters dont begin falling down with injuries. We'd be in trouble if Malone and/or Weathersby get hurt.
Depth chart probably looks something like this right now:
LT: SR. Malone/SO. Magee
LG: JR. Brumfield/FR. Deculus/FR. Charles
C: JR. Clapp/rFR. Cushenberry
RG: JR. Teuhema/SO. Campbell/FR. Ingram
RT: JR. Weathersby/rFR. Savage/FR. Stewart

A great qb can overcome oline problems and vice versa. It's highly unlikely we'll be good enough at either of those places to compete for a championship this year. Tiger fans don't want to hear it, but that Oline is only slightly better than average.

Yeah the overall talent/athletcism at OT right now is pretty, well, poor. This is why we need 3 OTs this recruiting cycle. Can you imagine if Weathersby decides to go pro early? I have no idea what we'll do in 2018...

I think you nailed it.
Until we have DOMINANT OL talent and depth again, we may find ourselves continuing to come up short.

Deculus is backup at both tackle spots

Even a great QB will be in trouble if the Bama D line does to us what they have been able to do recently. They knocked our O lines dck in the dirt.

He's a guard right now, the dude is 350+ pounds. He cannot play tackle at the moment. He would get his lunch ate.
He played guard in the spring game FYI

What depth? It doesn't matter if he can hide it. One or two injuries is all it takes

He was brought her to be our next left tackle. I'm sure they haven't given up on that yet. And on his weight, he has an entire summer with Moffitt on his arse. Doubt he's "350" game one

Now that this depth chart was posted, it looks a little dire if we get hit with injuries. The right side of that line is alright and I have faith in Clapp, but unless there's some talent hidden among the underclassmen (a la 2012 with Trai and Vadal stepping up big time) we could struggle mightily against the better defensive lines we face.

I encountered the mother of Austin Deculus' girlfriend earlier this week. She said that he has lost a lot of weight (~50 lbs?) and that he looks great. She said that he says the OL looks great and that he is planning on starting next year. She says he is a great kid, a big Teddy bear, but she said that you would not want to face him on the football field.

Idk why you guys are acting like we can't use a tigh end or fullback to chip . We have guys that can block . Relax

I'm all for preemptive PRP therapy on our tackles' knees and ankles.
Still "experimental," but only because insurance companies don't want to pay for it.
Healed my torn rotator cuff and labrum with no surgery. I don't see any harm in preemptively using it to strengthen the joints/tendons/ligaments if it helps keep our OTs healthy.

Fortunately the OL like QB is a position that doesn't need at least 2 and sometimes more at each spot. Never much rotation on any teams like all the other positions. However, injuries could devastate here. If indeed those are the five starters and four of them at least will be, LSU could lose all 5 to the draft in theory and be left with 8 guys with minimal experience and the new ones in 2018.
Malone is a senior and two of them are 3rd year juniors and two more are 4th year juniors. Anyway, time will tell, but it is a concern right now.

Wrong. He was listed as an OT by 247, but he absolutely got his lunch ate at in camp settings against pass rush DE's. He will be one hell of an OG, and at best be a RT after much development, but no way in hell will he ever play Left tackle. He would fair the same as the experiment with Maea Tehuma as an OT. Trust me when I say we are razor thin at tackle, and need 3 great ones this cycle.
Who is the last great OT Grimes has recruited and developed?

Sure we can. You are absolutely right. Would you rather use our HB as an extra blocker, thus using 2 players to neutralize 1, or would you rather see just how dynamic HB's can be in Canadas offense, and have 1 OT totally whipe out our opponents best pass rusher?

He's only recruited and coached 2 classes and we haven't gotten any big fish. Made Malone into a very solid lt; no one saw that coming. He recruited and coached weathersby to start his fr year.
Pocic was never going to start at lt for a significant amount of time therefore we aren't much worse off than we were last year. Which was slim but definitely more experience. Also, no one knows enough about decelus or savage to make a judgement yet.
