"Kinda late" as in Stoops retiring in June is late in the year for him to do this. Naming Riley HC is the only option for them at this point, and he can go out this year and prove if he's worthy or not, then they can do a proper search after this season if they feel he isn't worthy of the job..

Wonder if this was somehow related to the Joe Mixon backlash. Like either Stoops felt it was time to step down after the backlash he received or a higher up was pissed about the poor pr image it gave the school

I mean not really. We're here to discuss football. Not every topic on here is about LSU. A big time, college football program just lost its coach...figured this would be the perfect place to discuss it.
