Feds put lives in danger limiting rec anglers to only go out in conditions like last week. If they don't extend it to this weekend then outlaw?

I saw they were tossing around the idea of next weekend but this weekend is free fishing weekend. Why not coincide the rare event of catching the snappers legally with this free fishing event?

The feds didn't put any lives in danger. It is the responsibility of anglers to decide when the conditions are safe to fish in. If you don't have the boat to handle sea conditions, you simply don't leave the dock. There is no law saying you have to go red snapper fishing.

yet on this same notion, it is exactly why there are commercial quotas GIVEN to commercial D-bags every year.

Yes agreed a quota system would eliminate the problem, but does any species of fish get managed with a quota system for recreational angling? I can not think of any.

ETA: typo

So, realizing this, why hasn't an extended season been announced by the feds? They are encouraging unsafe fishing placing this event on one rainy, windy weekend.

They set this season a month ago, they had no idea what the weather conditions would be.

And I'm sure part of the reason an extended season has not been announced is the federal government doesn't work very fast... the season only ended 3 days ago.

Just know the feds don't frick around when it comes to illegal fishing. Look up what they have done to some stripe bass fisherman when it comes to illegally fishing federal waters.

Saw more cobia this year than have ever come in for the rodeo. Probably 3x as many. Great cobia catch.
