Both look pretty awesome.
Has anyone done these and what are your thoughts?

Ocoee is fun.

Nantahala would be my choice. Stay in Bryson City.

The Ocoee is awesome

I rafted the Ocoee about 15 years ago. Had a blast.

I did both years ago. Chatooga and it's not comparable.

Done chatooga twice. Both times were awesome.

Ocoee > Chatooga

I've done both... It's been about 15 or 16 years, but from what I remember, the Ocoee was a hell of a trip and the Chattooga was a little more laid back... There's a section in the Ocoee that was the Olympic Course. It was a rough son of a bitch and the water was extremely cold on Spring Break. The Chattooga had a few big rapids, but there seemed to be more of a break between them.
Both are beautiful and worth the trip.

Ocoee

I've never rafted the Ocoee, but have Kayaked it twice. You'll have a blast. It never really lets up, but short of a freak occurrence or being an idiot, it's pretty friendly. The Chattooga has a class 4+ or two though, so if potential life ending danger is your thing, take the Chattooga and run section 4 - Bull Sluice is no joke at high water.

Ocoee is my fav. Hiwassee is not bad either, more calm if you have little to no exprience.

Both rivers are great.
If you're looking for a one day trip, the Ocoee has bigger water and is the more ferocious river.
If you can do overnight trips, then go with the Chatooga. The Chatooga also has lots of side activities such as jumping off rocks or body surfing rapids.

I've done the Ocoee 3 times. Had a blast all 3 times. A lot of non stop action.

Back when I lived in Athens I did the Ocoee. Great conditions for sure. Never did the Chatuge.

Sorry...just saw this. I've done both. The Ocoee is awesome...but didn't compere to the Chattooga.
You won't be disappointed in either one. There were more outfitters on the Ocoee...and it isn't quite as remote as the Chattooga.

Ocoee looked pretty dangerous to me.
The Hiwassee is the correct answer.

Done both... The section of the Chatooga with the 4s and 5s is awesome and better than the Ocoee. But for an all day trip the Ocoee is maybe just a little more consistent entertainment. If I could do it again I would definitely do the Chatooga section with the big water. In fact we did that section twice on two half days and then went to the Ocoee... You can't go wrong...
