That Miami team was loaded with talent and people knew it at the time, they would likely crush 10 Auburn.
Yes, they were loaded with talent but a lot of it wasn't developed into what they were in the NFL yet and they were very poorly coached.
They barely beat 8-4 Virginia Tech and 8-4 Boston College. Those teams were QB'd by all-time greats, Grant Noel and Brian St. Pierre...
The best QB thag Miami team faced was Chris Rix
8 of the 12 teams that 01 Miami played threw more INTs on the season than TDs
How do you think their defense would have adjusted from that type of QB play to Cam Newton?
And Auburn's defense would have fared better than most would think.
Ken Dorsey and those Miami RBs are a good comparison to Greg McElroy and the 2010 Bama RBs who the 2010 Auburn defense held in check.
There would be no crushing going on.

Now this is completely false. You are re-writing history. Yes, most people will point to the staggering # of first round picks (5 in 02, 4 in 03 and another 6 in 04, that's 15 on the roster in 01. But those guys were all damn good college players, don't kid yourself. And to say they were poorly coached is also nonsense. Yeah, Larry Coker proved to not be a HC that could run a program long term, but that team was a lot closer to 3 straight NC than people realize. YYou don't win that many games in a row if you are "poorly" coached.

both of those teams finished the 2001 season ranked, VT 18 BC 21and both of those games were on the road. They also beat Syracuse who finished 14 59-0 and #19 Washington 65-7. They held 8 teams to single digits including 3 shutouts. VT was the only team they did not beat by more than 11 and BC was the only other 1 they didn't beat by at least 3 scores. So, no people do not just look back and rank them high because of the of NFL stars. We were well aware they were potentially an all time great team.
Auburn they had 7 games within 1 score including 3 points over Kentucky and Clemson who both finished 6-7.

who was the best 10 Auburn faced? McElroy? Murray as a frosh? Darron Thomas? Canton look out

They played Michael Vick the 2 previous seasons. A team with that much NFL talent on that good of a D can adjust. Newton is an all time and the X factor. But he can't do it alone.

The only team they held under 14 was ULM. 9 of 14 opponents scored at least 24. If Bama could score 27, Miami with all those pro WR and RB would do just fine vs an avg at best D.
I take 01 Miami (the #2 team of this era behind only 95 Nebraska) -13.5 over 2010 Auburn.
