That's true. I think that's why Mike gets more of a pass for falling out in earlier rounds early in his career. He wasn't losing to some mediocre team. He was losing to people like Larry Bird.

This is exactly what we're saying about Lebron losing in the finals to historically great teams. The point is, losing to better teams, shouldn't be a knock on either, but it's ridiculous that it's only a knock when it occurs in the NBA finals.

and Lebron isn't facing mediocre teams in the Finals, so it makes no sense to give MJ a pass but not Lebron, for those that view it that way
