The Pats literally just did this with Gronk.

And you know how everyone here is always saying we need to be like the Pats.

Also why Strief and not player x is easily answered with Strief has been vastly underpaid pretty much his entire tenure. This could be his last payday. The wanted to show respect to a Saints lifer and also show that hard work and being a good teammate and good person can pay off.

And don't (good) businesses reward long tenured workers with raises? So they are acting like a (good) business.

Good point, I had missed that. But... Strief is no Gronk. There's a difference between keeping a superstar happy and handing out cash to one role player and not another. Also, Gronk "needs to play at an All Pro level to receive all the incentives" in his new contract, so the Pats do potentially get something for giving him a raise. And, Pats media is wondering the same thing I am - won't this piss off other players who are underpaid.
