Strief started every game at right tackle last season while earning PFF's No. 10 tackle grade out of 76 qualifiers.
Backup? Retire? He is 33, he likely has a few more years left in him. Guy like Andrew Whitworth is 35, for reference. Sure, there is no where to go but down. But damn, how soon do we forget how hard it was to find a reliable tackle.
Strief is totally taken for granted by our fans. im not sure there is a guy in the SP era that has been brushed off and almost disrespected as much as Strief. We are talking about a 7th Rd pick going into his 12th year with our organization, the last 5 or 6 which he has been our most consistent and often times best OL. shite, the last few years he has graded as one of the BEST in the league. He doesn't mouth off, get in trouble, and he's out and about in the city more than ANY other Saint probably ever. Not to mention he's investing his money in the city with the brewery.
If Carl frickin Nicks gets in the Saint HOF, Strief may very damn well get a statue out front.

People engrave the one bad game a year he has and take it for 16 ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Except not everyone ages the same, plays the same, takes care of themselves the same. For all we know Strief can fall of a cliff. Just because Whitworth did it, does not mean Strief will.
It's not to say I hope that happens, I just don't think its a fair comparison.

I do agree, but Nicks at his prime may have been better than Jahri (a possible HoFer) at his prime. Strief at his best is a step or two below that level.
But Strief's continued high level of play is why I question the Ramcszykxcykzck pick. I felt the same (but much more strongly) about the Peat pick, but he's ended up being a good LG and probably an above average starting LT. I already like Kelemete as a backup at either OT position. I just feel like Ramczyk isn't going to see the field too much this season, and maybe not next even season.
On that note, outside of Charles Brown, I can't think of any Payton-era Saints OL draft picks busting, so I can't get upset at them for the pick. Unlike LB, they know what they're doing there.
A touch off topic, but I think this could end up being the Saints's 2nd best draft ever after 2006. Would have loved to get Foster at 32, but I really liked each of their picks outside of Analzone. Ramczyk will be good, I just think he will be on the bench for too long for it to be a great pick.
And now a brief personal story related to the thread:
One night at Lucy's, a handful of whisky drinks deep, I started speaking to a friend while walking from the front bar to back patio area. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. I suddenly walked into what felt like a support beam. I gather myself and looked at what I just ran into, and it turned out to be Zack Strief's back. The dude seriously didn't even recognize what happened. And not in the "I'm better than you, so I won't pay you any attention" way, but the "I didn't feel you slam into me" kind of way. If doctors removed both of arms, I still have no doubt that he would have little trouble killing me if he wanted to.
