Went to Phoenix in October a couple of years ago to play baseball in the NABA Nationals. Done this trip several times in years past. This time, we stayed at a bargain "suites" hotel where the "suite" was just a room with a kitchenette.

Room smelled musty and moldy, had to be aired out constantly. Moved to another room, same smell. Couldn't change hotels because paid in advance through Priceline.

Couldn't go to any national parks because the federal government was shut down because of budget squabbles.

Cancelled a day trip to Prescott because the whole city was in mourning over the loss of 13 firefighters in a wildfire.

Nothing much to do but dine out and lose $$$ at Indian casinos. Golf out because of the wife being there with me. We had already been to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Bisbee, and Tombstone on previous trips.

Our team lost nearly every game, missed playoffs. Went home early and disgusted at considerable extra expense.

Worst thing was The Lovely & Talented Mrs. Lammo was so pissed and disgusted at my morose and whiny arse, she said she'd never go back to Phoenix for baseball ever again.

My wife and I were a few months from being married and my wife's little brother was on a soccer team that won the state championship in Mississippi, and was playing in a regional tournament at Panama City.

Somehow we got talked into going on this trip to watch "the greatest 12 year old soccer team Mississippi had ever produced" win its way to the national tournament.

We figured we would hang out at the beach while they spent the day at the soccer fields. No. My mother in law insisted that we come and watch every game. Thunderstorms came in and it delayed games so we basically did nothing but watch 12 year old soccer and go to cheap restaurants the entire time.

The worst part, they quickly found out that their team wasn't the only one that was stacked. A team from North Carolina beat them 12-0. They didn't get blown out in the other two games, but they only scored one goal total. So my father in law was pissed the entire time and the trip back was hell.
