I think, like Russia, Assange probably has an interest in kicking up dust with Americans and making them doubt and oppose their institutions.
If so, it makes sense that he'd see a conspiracy theory gaining traction with a certain element, and pour gas on that fire to create even more division.
Of course, this board thinks WikiLeaks is focused on governmental accountability and just ensuring Americans know what their government is up to

Not just that but if Assange has a (or another) source inside the DNC, then it is in his interest to have Seth (who is convenient for Assange too now that he is dead) blamed for it to throw off suspicion.
Or if Wikileaks' source is less savory then Seth Rich is a convenient way to legitimize your operation.
