Yes, really. We did Breckinridge a couple of summers ago. Got a house downtown for good eats. We drove to the top of Mt Evans (14k+) took a steam train trip, White water rafting, horseback riding, hiking. You can use the ski lifts to lift you up the mountain and bike down. Tons of great stuff, and the temps are so much cooler than the gulf coast...
