Because that means cutting off the cash cow for (1) higher ed, (2) financial services, (3) textbook publishers, (4) real estate developers, (5) everyone else who has fingers in this cash cow.
Oh and you get to be called racist for doing it. It is a nonstarter for both sides.

No vendetta. You were just an outlandish supporter who appeared to have no misgivings despite numerous reasoned posts pointing otherwise.
That said, you really have nothing to worry about as this is a negotiation starting point. They will not get 30% of the cut they are proposing and they know it. Twenty percent, though, is a good compromise.

I wonder if it's possible to take advantage of both programs .
Unfortunately no, we looked in to that and they wont allow it.

I criticized Trump plenty of times during his campaign and throughout the past few months.

I don't recall that during the campaign. Your username and avatar is most associated with the Trump and women gif used as a response in dozens of threads.

From what I remember NIH was on and off the train a few times during the primaries. Once Trump clinched the nomination he went MAGA bigly.

Some people want to serve in capacities such as a prosecutor, VA Doctor, etc. novel idea, I know.
So this repayment program, which is contributing to a massive and dangerous economic bubble, is the only way to make that happen?
This program is part of an economic nuke. Figure out another way champ. Surely we have enough government employees with advanced degrees sitting around to find a safer, less disruptive way to entice people to work for the government.

The safer alternative is just dumping the federal backed student loan. Do you see Trump pushing that?
This isn't really contributing to the student loan bubble, it a symptom of that bubble.

So then why don't they work somewhere else for full market value?
Because the federal government distorted the free market by backing student loans. In some instances working in the public sector can be more beneficial than private pay if you hit PSLF.
Exactly

How about the people that want to get rid of it figure out a other way?
Professional positions are a lagging indicator- frick with desirability now and in 4+ years you'll be wondering why you can't find a PCP and there's no beds available in a hospital. Find your solution first before transitioning.

I'm fine with removing it if the system is completely overhauled to Mr cartons capitalist paradise where healthcare is treated as a profitable commodity and salaries increase.
1. This program is a component of the problem. Federally subsidized student loans isn't a symtpom.
2. anyone with a loan should be grandfathered in to the repayment program.
Posted on 5/18/17 at 2:26 pm to MrCarton
I don't agree. By virtue of the fact the program exists and how/why it came about dispels your point.

Start with this and follow with a solution to enticing quality applicants to non profit work and you have a starting point.
Not everyone who benefits from this works for daddy government. Lots of independent non-govt facilities exist. Charity hospitals benefit from this program and even rely on it to attract talent l.

stop the program, cut employees, raise salaries. Grandfather in the people who took loans under these conditions. Anything else?

This program pushes those professionals into the government sector, which contributes to the lack of PCPs through the inefficiency of government in the first place. Stop fricking with the godamn market, which is what i proposed, and this problem will get better.

Cool. How do you want to go about doing this?

False. See above post.

Why do people want to raise salaries? The government saves by effectively deferring a big portion of compensation for 10 years.
In that sense this is actually a really clever free market solution.

Raising salaries is what you have to do IF you remove this program.
Either that or lower education costs considerably, or both.
I don't disagree that this is ideal. I disagree that it's remotely practical in today's political climate.

quote:This would be my position too, my opinion on this is 100% determined by whether they're pulling the rug out from people who have already taken loans. Although it is an example of the general irritation that comes with Trump constantly shitting out vague one-page bulleted lists instead of detailed plans.

I do like that Tiguar gets to play the role of the squishy left-libertarian bitch for once
