Of course we should try to find a solution. If you have a practical one I would love to hear it. shite happens in life, and I just can't think of a way to stop this type of stuff from happening. You can write the protection into contracts for teams, but the team still has to use a pick on that player. It may save them financially, but they gave up that pick that they could have used on another player. The only other way would be getting rid of the wage scale of the draft where you could pay a troubled guy 1st round money who you picked in the 4th if they are innocent, but that'll never happen.

A combination of contract protections (being able to void the rookie contract) and compensation picks could work.
If you can give out comp picks for losing FAs, I don't see why the same logic can't be used for losing rookies to certain circumstances.
