Guess it all depends on where you live. My HOA dues are $1,500/year. However, that covers multiple pools, a gym, paved trails, play scapes for the kids, grooming of the common areas, trash. Also covers the entrance/exit gate with a guard on site 24/7.

That said, it's a very nice neighborhood with some very expensive homes. The last thing I want is some hood rats walking around the neighborhood looking for what they could steal, or some trashy neighbor junking up their yard and driving property values down.

An HOA can be a pain in the arse, but they also help to protect your investment and that is needed in some areas.
