$4000 to run wires while the studs are still exposed? This sounds completely off. Hell, buy the wire and run it yourself. Just have someone do the doors/windows if you're not comfortable doing that.

Hence why I came to the OT. 
If it's easy enough to do myself, then I'd much rather save the money and put in a little elbow grease.
However, back to the original part of the question, is a wired system even needed anymore?
