From the article:

quote:

100% whole-grain-rich standard. Schools will no longer need to hit the strictest target for lowering sodium in foods offered to students. And meal programs will be able to serve students 1% flavored milk instead of fat-free flavored milk.
.

This is not going to make our children less healthy or fat. In fact dairy fat is good for you and the grains, not so much.

This article is a lot to do about nothing and the reality is that the federal government has no place in school lunches. That should be local level decisions.

Yes, fat does not make you fat. Mooochle's program was an unmitigated diaster. The amount of food was calorically the same for everyone; be it a 90lbs cheerleader or a 260 lbs lineman. It wasn't enough the kids didn't like it either - schools were actually throwing away more food because of the program.

Oh, and let's not mention the fact that ketchup was considered a vegetable.....ketchup.

It was a terrible program.

The standards were set by people that are dishonest and completely ignorant about nutrition. Eliminating fat and sodium is not healthy, restricting calories in meals that might be the only real meal some kids get that day is not healthy. Children are growing and developing, they need more calories and they need physical activities for recess. If the kid is fat, it's on the parent(s) to make changes.
