Just got back from seeing it tonight, it was much better than Prometheus and more in line with the original movies. David is the man, glad they brought him back. I walked away with a big smile... when are people going to learn not to touch stuff that looks alien

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie.
It had a great, 50's sci-fi / monster movie feel to it.
I loved the classic "group finds themselves stranded in a remote area and runs across a mad scientist" thing.
Bummed that Katherine Waterston stopped getting naked in movies.

As a purley "scary alien crawls around in ducts and kills people in a gory fashion" movie...it delivered.
As a follow up to Prometheus, it was an abysmal failure:
1 - Why did David kill Shaw? They went to great lengths to show David as very fond of her in the pre-release footage. Then he kills her because...experiments? Dumb.
2 - Why did David kill the engineers (if that's what they are?) for that matter? Did Shaw have any say in this?
3 - If David wanted to destroy humanity so badly, why didn't he just set a course for earth once Shaw was in hypersleep?
4 - Why did the juggernaut crash on the mountain? It was docked, David released the pathogen, then...crashed? Dumb.
5 - David created the Xenomorph, yet there was a mural of it in Prometheus? Very ham handed attempt to explain the alien's origin.
6 - This was the engineer home world? One city on an entire planet, with maybe a couple hundred thousand inhabitants? These are the galaxy seeding godlike race that created the juggernaut ship? ... On this point I think this world was probably an early stage "seeding" from the actual engineers, hence the joyous welcoming reception of the ship until they realize it isn't the gods they were expecting.
7 - The original space jockey in Alien was dead for so long that it had fossilized. Now the creation of the xenomorph only predates the original Alien by 18 years.

1. It was 1,000,000 times better than Orometheus but that isn't saying much because Prometheus was awful
2. The Alien like parts were fine. The other shot was pretty bad and doesn't fit into the movie
3. There was a lot of cringeworthy stuff in here. David raising his hand and the Alien mimicking him. Tennessee putting the ship in danger
4.the fricking no -stop philosophizing is just utter bullshite. We get it Ridley. You're a very proud atheist. We just want to go see a movie about ducking scary alien

Is Orometheus the prequel to Prometheus?

Does his bill make him scary or is it the feathers?

He has a God complex. He likes mixing dna and creating new species. Humans and engineers make different types of xenomorphs.

I liked it, but also did not like the way they handled Shaw and the Engineers. I really wanted to learn more about them and their civilization. It sucks that David just wiped them out.

Movie sucked.
The most interesting thing (David and what he's been up to and his motivations) are ignored to make a monster movie with no tension
They fixed what was good about Prometheus and kept what was bad
fassbender is the only good thing about it and they telegraph the ending that otherwise would've been terrifying

loved the classic "group finds themselves stranded in a remote area and runs across a mad scientist" thing.
Movie sucks and Prometheus is way better. Instead of more character motivation we're given less. Instead of a more concise script that makes the rules (horror movies need rules) clear they just ignore it entirely.

It's not so subtly shown that David (and the name made sense before having the statue in weylands office to hit you over the head with it) is the idealized man especially since he doesn't die so I understand wanting to wipe out man and their creators (engineers) but why does he want to create the perfect organism? It's not just to achieve extinction so why? Oh it's never even hinted at. I don't want it spelled out but entirely ignoring it made the one good thing about the movie less enjoyable
And the crew doesn't really discover what David did visually for the audience (a tiny bit maybe) but it's shown in flashbacks. I didn't need to see him wiping out the engineers I already know he did it

neither can procreate. one wants to meet her makers and the other (the only one of his kind) wants to destroy them. there's never a moment for david though. he has no arc. what choice does he make and why that leads him to becoming this Mengele type character?
frick I hated this movie

Its part of his programming. Weyland gave him the ability to be creative and create things. People thought it was weird so he took that programming out of Walter. David is one of a kind. He's doing what he was designed to do.

Then what was the difference in the Aliens in the pods from the original movie?

David is so interesting but he seems to reject or be disappointed by the creation explanation that "because we could"
There's no comprehensible motivation. There's no choice he's ever presented with that changes him. Even his experimentations aboard the Prometheus are confusing because "try harder" how does that serve weyland's goals?

seems like a really bad reason to make these movies and yet, there is something interesting they had in this movie and it was completely unexplored and ignored.
despite that this movie could've been really good. it could've been everything leading up to the point david finds them, but instead they never find david, they take refuge in his little shop of horrors, unbeknownst to the audience and the characters in the movie david murders their android and assumes his identity sabotaging/killing them/experimenting on them. along the way they piece together what happened on the planet and what has been done in this palace but don't know who and why, but then david reveals himself towards the end and gives his bad guy speech and blah blah blah a fight ensues and david dies and they head off to the planet they originally were going to but then it is revealed to the audience that daniels is unknowingly carrying an alien embryo.

Well beyond that...it was super obvious. No attempt at tricking us into thinking it was Walter
