How about, he's done little to conclusively prove he's the future. He looked good in the preseason last year. He looked good in game one and was great in game two before he got hurt.

he's had what, 2 solid games where he looked very competent. much more than osweiler did.

If the random reports of teams offering a 1st (specifically cleveland with 12) are true than it looks like they are very serious about him being the future.

they could non-exlusive tag him and would get 2 1st round picks if someone signs him. Before this draft, I would have considered KC to be a team to do that kind of trade.

27th, 91st, and 2018 1st for Patrick Mahomes

Asswater doesn't exactly help your argument.

And we have no idea what the Garoppolo offer was. I've seen multiple variations.

The fact is, throwing starter money at a QB2 who has 2 total starts isn't a smart move, especially when your 1st ballot HOF QB is still playing great.

I agree, it'd be absolutely crazy but at the same time what other option is there? Maybe you tell Jimmy G, hey man Brady is still the starter here but you're next in line, you don't want to be osweiler. Take this 2yr, 20mil contract and we'll go from there?

Your HOF QB will retire eventually, but what if BB believes Jimmy G is the next big elite QB? You'd either trade him or you keep him because you'd be a fool to let him walk. If there truly was a 1st rounder involved and Patriots didn't bite for it, than it leans towards keeping him.

This year, his value is at an all time high. You get one year of him, cheap price, and if he sucks you ding his value a lot and if you want you can still re-sign him for a nice price. Sure you wasted a pick, but you didn't invest an ungodly amount of $$ (Osweiler) into him.

Next year? He's franchise tagged, 20mil, and you still have to give up a pick, but now you spend THAT much more.

It's a tough decision, no doubt. It all depends on what the Patriots know. The general public doesn't know shite. 2 starts isn't enough to know what JG is capable of. It's definitely not enough to make an informed decision as to whether he's the future of the franchise.

IMO, if Brady is still playing well at the end of the 17 season, you have to let JG walk. The other alternative is paying a backup QB starter money for an unknown period of time. What if Brady plays for 3 more seasons?

If I had to guess, they are worried about Brady being able to stay healthy. If Brady misses significant time this year, I think JG gets the franchise tag. To me, it's between JG and Butler on who gets the franchise tag next year, because they can always tag and tradem like they did with Cassel.

I think these two years are Brady's last stand, especially if they win a Superbowl or two. The teams are loaded, and his wife has already begged him to stop playing, so it would be borderline retarded of him to risk life altering injury after he wins at least one more (which they have to be considered the odds on favorite to do assuming he's healthy).

Have you seen the patriots roster? They might lose 2 games at the most all season even if Brady has some regression

Have you seen their division? I will believe it when I see it that any of those 3 can challenge them consistently

We are talking about the Patriots, aren't we?

They are known for, aaaa hum, doing nefarious things to stay ahead.

They aren't letting G go without some heavy compensation.

I wouldn't really compare a guy who never took a snap in college vs a dude who was a 2nd round pick

That has to be one of the crazier NFL stats. 33 total attempts in college to NFL starting QB making a total of $61 million.

Pretty sure he's made more money than the two dudes (leinart and Sanchez) have combined in the league

I wouldn't really compare a guy with 94 career attempts in placeholder and mop-up duty to a dude that went 10-5 as a starter.

Yeah but what's weird is that Matt Leinart only made 18 mil career earnings. 10 of that was in his second year. And he was for sure before the rookie wage scale. His agent must've been shite or something

10-5 as a starter with one of the most stacked rosters in NFL history to be fair
