Well if the machine people are legit then we would get some sort of explanation of what happened, maybe not verbatim but an idea. The ending of this seasons first episode has me worried something happens to Kevin.
Also can somebody explain the scene with Pilgrims/Amish. I feel like I missed something important in that scene. Was it just letting us know similar events have happened before?

I just thought of something, my above LOST post was obviously a joke.
But since S2 and continuing this season on the title intro sequence it has been showing the departed people in photos as space/stars/the universe.
What if that Dr. was right and it just shot everyone literally into space? It goes with the "odds" discussion and the title sequence. That could be it honestly.

It was the same thing as the intro to season 2, showing the woman having a baby then getting killed by a snake and her baby taken by another lady. Just showing that the geographical location had historical significance.
Thinking about it now, there has been a whole lot of "that's not your baby" / "raising other people's kids" in this show. (Tommy, Lily, the baby scene at bus stop, nora/jill, etc) Reminds me of LOST with Aaron and Claire: "You must raise him, no one else can" And then Kate, etc raising Aaron instead and then it becoming a disaster with the grandmother, etc.
