I don't like the idea that this is just a private company that's doing this. The core concept is extremely viable, but it needs to be administered in a controlled, scientific double blind format, preferably by a university.
You have a hypothesis, you find test subjects interested (anonymous if need be), and then administer the experiment, and track the results. What % of subjects made their urges more easy to cope with, what percentage made it harder to cope with, and what percentage actually ended up acting on those urges (compared to baseline rates).
Once you have the fricking answer to the hypothesis, you have a policy prescription that may substantially lower child molestation and/or abduction rates, for the entire future. That outweighs any short term human or financial cost to the experiment by a virtually infinite margin.
And this is another example of the long term solution being prohibited by politicians only worried about get fricking reelected. This is why we need to way to separate moral and technical policy within government. If you handed this problem to a group of data scientists they would have an answer back in 8 years or less. But since it has to go through the political process, it'll probably never get done.
