A technical observation here...the Sovereign's use of remote-controlled fighters.
You're going to get lag if you're reliant on light-speed controls (radio etc), even at relatively close distances. Earth to moon is 1.3 seconds, so even at that range it's going to be disastrously poor for dogfighting etc.
But for "up close", it seems like that would be the wave of the future... or maybe not? Up close, you would probably have your entire group of pilots in one compound (or mothership), and run the risk of losing the entire squadron on one big hit. Manned fighters would have more risk of some casualties, but not nearly the risk of losing the whole group.
