Been doing the shots for 1.5 years now and it's been working great. Never had allergies until about 5 years ago and it was a serious drain on my quality of life.
I did "cluster shots" which is a relatively new way to do it. After going in a couple times a week for the first couple of months I now just go in every 4 weeks. Not sure if this is true everywhere but I don't need an appointment when I go in for my shots - I just walk in say hi and I'm done in 5 minutes.
If you constantly get sick or just feel like shite due to allergies it's 100% worth it.
