An easy fix would've been to just give Elba blue contacts and make a joke about sunburn.

Him being white and the blue eyes are meaningless to the story if they're dropping Detta, which it appears they are. The only meaningful impact the color of his skin held was their interactions, and if she's gone then it's irrelevant. The color of his eyes doesn't impact the story. Get over it
