Doesn't spoil the surprise and after Empire you get the background for how this all came to be. Machete order they call it

I like the idea of starting with rouge One.

That scene with Vader tearing those rebel shoulders up will help reinforce the fact that Vader is a ruthless villain in episodes 4 5 and 6.

Is it actually possible that an adult in 2017 doesn't know that Darth Vader is Luke's father? Even if you've never watched Star Wars people know this don't they?

This. Keeps the major plot reveals as much of a surprise as possible, and also explains who the young punk Force ghost is at the end of Jedi.
