Headed there for a 3 day hunt and it looks like crappy weather....Was wondering if that mattered up there like it does down here

Buddy of mine goes almost every year on a guided hunt. Him and his wife both killed birds this week actually.

Yes the weather matters. You can be on a piece of land one morning and swear there aren't any turkeys within a mile. Then the next morning they will be gobbling in every direction. To me the wind seems to be the main factor in how good they gobble.

Kansas is a big state. What part?

Never hunted turkeys there but when we go to our place up there dead turkeys litter the sides of the roads like Armadillos and possums do in La

Yeah, it's pretty incredible, and when they answer you, they coming. Not as shy as easterns...Weather next few days probably will be an issue though.

If you cant kill a turkey in Kansas, stop hunting. We go every year, damned turkeys everywhere. We came in from hunting and went to unch one afternoon and there were turkeys strutting just outside of town in the middle of a propane delivery business. Unbelievable. Good luck.

I've hunted the sand hills region and I've never seen so many turkeys. We got to the camp at 11 pm, slammed the door and what sounded like 100 gobblers sounded off. Open the door and slam it again and the same thing happened, just plain ridiculous. They didn't really respond to calling because of the shear numbers of hens that would fly down into the fields. I filled up my back pack with antler sheds while hunting the edges that were enormous and contributed them to the bone pile already stacked up at the camp. People in town where asking us what we were hunting and we said turkeys. They laughed and would make comments like " please come to my house because they are roosting on my roof and picking the shingles off looking for insects. They are a true nuisance in that part of the state. It was an amazing weekend and one I'll never forget.

We will be in Holton, KS.....NE part of state North of Topeka.

90% Rain the first day
25 mph winds the second day

Third day looks promising

But whatever happens, it's better than working, right?

A friend of mine goes quite often and always gets one.

If I remember right the place he hunts has Eastern, Merriam's and hybrids of the two.

It's always windy but the turkeys are used to it. Bring a good pair of binoculars.

I thought Kansas mostly consisted of Eastern and Rio Grande. Cool to know that there are also Merriam.

Be careful of the roads after the rains. They will be slick!

Bil goes. He said if you hunt the open praries the sound travels so well its not unusual to hear 20 different gobblers at one time. Lot different than central Mississippi
