I think armed robbery ranks out as a crime committed by "high commitment" criminals--people difficult to dissuade from criminal activity. They do hardcore crimes and don't really weigh the consequences because they [somehow] don't plan on being caught. If the 10 years+ he's probably looking at for taking a $150 register wasn't enough, I doubt 30 would have been.
