Depends on the surgeon and where the fracture is located. If we are able to put the rigid titanium plates across the fracture well we often don't have to leave them wired shut. If. It well, sometimes have to wire shut for a couple of weeks. For certain types of fractures you're pretty much forced to only wire the jaw shut for 4-6weeks.
For some surgeons they treat the majority of fractures just by wiring the jaw shut... It take 30mins to wire a jaw shut...were as a difficult jaw fracture can be 2-3hours to fix via plating etc.
