I am pretty pumped about this. I remember loving this movie a few years ago.
I find the older I get, the more I appreciate older movies from the 40s-70s.
Big fan of westerns and big budget drama productions.

Read about the joke Vidal and the guy who played Masala pulled on Heston.

Heston was born to play these parts. The classic epics of the Hollywood Golden Age will never be duplicated.

What was the real difference between VistaVision and Ultra Panavision?
I always thought Ben-Hur was VistaVision.
Martin Scorcese said VistaVision was the best movie format ever invented to this day.
Ultra Panavision 70. The 70 mm film gauge actually used 65 mm wide film in the camera to capture images in these processes. The projection print, however, was 70 mm film stock. Ultra Panavision 70 and MGM Camera 65's anamorphic lenses compressed the image 1.25 times, yielding an extremely wide aspect ratio of 2.76:1 (when a 70 mm projection print was used).
Movies shot on Ultra panovision -
Ben-Hur
Mutiny on the Bounty
The Greatest Story Ever Told
Raintree County
Khartoum
VistaVision - In many ways, Vistavision was a testing ground for cinematography ideas that evolved into 70 mm IMAX and OMNIMAX film formats in the 1970s. Both IMAX and OMNIMAX are oriented sideways, like Vistavision.
Movies of VistaVision:
North by Northwest
Vertigo
The Searchers
The Man Who Knew Too Much
The Ten Commandments

Ben Hur is a western now? It's even less a western than Django.

I watched about two hours of it on Easter Sunday. It's great but that's all I could take.

The Heston is not the original. The chariot race is almost a shot for shot remake of the original.

I'm just going to say it. I saw the Hateful Eight in 70mm. I didn't see what the big fricking deal was.

Oh my bad. I can't read.
I'll destroy my credibility a little more here: I enjoyed the Ben Hur from last year.
