I traveled with my great-grandparents every summer for almost a decade. Each trip was the most great-grandparent trip you could possibly imagine. We went to the Alamo, Colonial Williamsburg, D.C. To see the government buildings and monuments, Hot Springs, etc.
My great-grandpa was my hero. He taught me discipline, respect, the history of LSU football, and how to play mediocre golf. He passed away a few years ago after a 5 year battle with Alzheimer's. I'm just incredibly grateful to have gotten 23 years with him.
My great-grandma just turned 89 yesterday and is still sharp as a tack. She was valedictorian of Dutchtown in 1945 and ran her own small business in BR from 1961-1988, back when women simply didn't do those things.
They grew up dirt poor in Praireville. My grandma showed me her high school diploma, which was hand written. She also told me her mom used to make their clothes out of burlap sacks because they couldn't afford to buy any. Pretty awesome that she went from that to a business owner in less than 40 years.
