Drilling fluid. So basically a mixture of mud (?) and other products that really aren't harmful to the environment.
How do you know that?

For one, they can follow the procedures that they proposed in their fricking permit application.

I can't imagine that a permanent buried pipeline makes sense to transport drilling fluid, which also isn't really particularly harmful.
I assume they spilled horizontal drilling fluid that was being used in the installation process. The final pipeline will undoubtedly transport Oil or Natural gas.

Is that the same sister you saved from the ruffians with a well placed rock? She should give you some of that money for you efforts.

Because it isn't? Originally the industry used diesel based drilling fluid but the stuff does leak out of the well during operations, so the industry changed over to water based drilling fluid.
The stuff is water, boxite (aka cat litter), and gum/gels (which are in food you eat). Even in the unlikely event this stuff has something harmful to the environment in it, the amount would be miniscule even over this many gallons.

POST AN MSDS of the drilling fluid? Why are you freaking the frick out if you don't know what the fluid consists of?
Post a copy if all the measures the company promised to take to prevent this, then post what they actually did.

The EPA listed Bentonite (fine clay) as being illegally discharged. If it was your pond they dumped in, I'm sure you would feel differently.
I just don't think we should be defending this company. They have an obligation to do better, to keep the heat off of all the other pipeline companies.

Sure it is disruptive to a pond it gets dumped into. If the company didn't follow safety procedures/regulations then they should be fined or penalized appropriately.
In the end though (1) this isn't going to be some significant environmental issue (the stuff just isn't bad for the environment) and (2) this isn't a valid argument against O&G like some are making it out to be.

I agree with this. But in today's climate, pipeline companies should know better. I would hope they do a better job of self-policing.

There's two sides to these things and one side doubles down that the pipelines are perfectly safe for the environment.
Rover Pipeline is the name of the operation. The drilling and drilling fluid is not a pipeline.

Just like you owned that you baselessly accused a poster of trying to sexually assault kids and never owned it? Then I called you out on it and you denied it? Then I went and posted the whole convo and you deflected? I can repost it again unless you're into this "owning" thing now
