Im against the new city but am completely sympathetic to their desire and would probably end up moving there if it ever happened. Its amazing how idiotic the approach has been from the detractors and all but guarantees continued efforts to breakaway.

Exactly. Their demands were far from unreasonable at the start. A compromise could have easily been made by building another high school (maybe one near Gardere and Highland), and adding a couple primary and middle schools.

By pulling all of these parliamentary tricks, turning this into a race issue (despite half the school-aged children in St. George being black or Hispanic), and calling St. George supporters terrorists and segregationists, they have ensured that nothing but a full split will satisfy the suburbanites.
