Horizon does open world pretty well I think. The side quests are no more annoying or pointless than similar games. I actually think the side missions in Horizon are a bit better than games like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. Horizon is not an RPG like The Witcher 3, but the way a lot of the side quests are presented, you have motivation for needing to complete the tasks.
The voice acting is atrocious though. While I appreciate the fact that I'm not hearing the same voice actors that appear in virtually every video game, most of the NPCs sound like random office workers they threw in front of a microphone.
