How exactly can they do that? Switching to clubs and adding pro/rel (which you've suggested before) would just be a bad version of what you can see in Europe.

No it wouldn't because I could then feel a sense of personal ownership over a team in a way that's not available in the US or most of Europe at this point.

I've given money to Nashville FC (before the takeover), Detroit City, and San Fran City FC. I'm also a Jesters season ticket holder. I badly want a path for true community spawned clubs to thrive. MLS does all they can to stamp that out in favor of their single entity, corporate, NFL lite view of the world where fan expression at games is suppressed and the league changes the roster rules mid season when it suits them because why not? Every team is MLS owned anyway. It's not like it's real competition. That's not me saying that, that's MLS saying it.

They've had about a century of chances, most of that without MLS in the picture. You just need to accept that what you want does not equal what there is actually a market for. No amount of shitposting about MLS attendance, TV ratings, or tax attributes is going to change that it's far far far and away the most successful soccer league this country has ever seen, is improving in quality, is improving the development structure and is improving the talent of not just the United States but all of the North and Central American nations.
