This is off-topic but I didn't feel like it warranted starting a new thread.

What would happen if a fan intentionally moved a ball? Like let's say it's a playoff and a guy tees off and goes WAY off into the woods, and a fan in the woods who likes the golfer just picks the ball up and throws it right down the fairway. Now obviously teh fan would be escorted out and never allowed back, but I mean as it relates to the golf. Is that just "one of those things" and they just roll with it, or woudl they look at film and try to place the ball back to its original spot?

if a fan in the woods picks up a bad tee shot 300 yards away, he probably doesn't know if it's the guy he's rooting for or the guy he's rooting against...

but if they just "rolled with it", some golfers undoubtedly would pay people to do such a thing

That happened a couple of weeks ago, at the WGC event, I think. Phil hit a shot into the gallery, and someone takes it as a souvenir. A rules official came over, talked to a few witnesses, and they placed the ball in their best guess spot.
