I hate Zinn, he hates America and if he were on fire I would not piss on him to put it out. That being said, I'm not for banning his books or burning them.

Howard Zinn was such a pathetic fake "historian". His made up bullshite personal fantasies about reality were laughable.
I'm so glad he's dead. I hope to, some day, visit his grave and piss on it as I tamp the dirt down to make sure he never crawls out as Zombie Howard Zinn.
I'm so glad his name was brought up...it reminds me of how glad I am knowing he's dead. Does anyone know how he died...was it painful??

Talk about some random bogus shite that doesn't even pertain to Zinn's book.

His thesis is that history is written by the winners (true), so he looked at US history from the point of view of the losers and the downtrodden (not a bad idea at all). "People's History" is an interesting tome indeed. There is nothing wrong with myth stripping.
However, I think he overplayed the hand and at times threw the baby out with the bathwater. Overall, his book is well worth the read.

Agreed. It's an opinion piece so I guess they wanted to get in their opinion about everything.

It's a banal tome with no corroborating evidence. When asked about the lack of footnotes to his claims, he just stated that there were none....because the winners slanted everything. This was somehow "evidence" that his made up bullshite was more accurate. He was a life long Stalinist...but never questioned the butchery of Communism or Marxism.
A true believer....in whatever he thought.
I agree, there's nothing wrong with myth stripping, but you can't do it by simply superimposing a bigger myth on top of it.
I'm so glad he's dead.

I sa the lack of footnotes. But, he is writing popular history and not for just academic types. In my copy there are end notes in the back where he cited hi s sources.

I think his work is the backbone of Oliver Stone's series on NetFlix ....could be wrong. Basically makes Henry Wallace out to be some sort of misunderstood hero.

I read it, he always glorified the bad guys when telling the story, like the Indians and the north

So he's writing made up crap. Actual history is neither popular nor unpopular. It's just history.
His footnotes mostly consist of citing others who believe his, and their own, made up "history. I have no problem with fantasy stories, but they have no place in an actual history class. His books should be in the fiction section of any library, imo.

Not sure you understand what I meant by popular history.

Zinn's book does sound intersting and worth the read.

It is worth the read. It presents a different prism to view US history. But, remember, as with all historians there is an agenda to his interpretation. But, it is a fascinating tome.

The spelling and grammar in this thread makes me question if any of you have ever read any books. Holy shite!

Howard (((Zinn))) was an open communist subversive who hated America. He also had almost a 500 page FBI file.
That said, I don't agree with book "banning" in any form. I just don't think his books should be used as curriculum in public schools.
