I think it's more of shite we're out of ideas let's just repackage what worked in the past

I don't think either of those games are repackaging anything.
I'm saying they got back to the core concepts. Resident evil had turned into an action shooter and it went back to survival horror. It was super different from every entry though. Zelda got back to exploration and freedom. Previous Zelda games were the ones just repackaging things.
Resident evil was the most fun I've had playing resident evil since the original. Zelda went back to concepts they left after the first freaking game.

Wat.
I played the OG Resident Evil back in 96 or 97. I think it was originally conceived as a remake of another game, but turned out to be radically different.
Am I missing something?

I admittedly played resident evil 2 first, but I went back and thoroughly enjoyed the original.
The REmake is one of the best horror games ever made.
I'm hoping the rumored remaster/remake of resident evil 2 is just as good.

I hope there is a trend in the near future where game play makes a resurgence over graphics.
Where playing the game is more important than the story of the game.

RE2 is the mf goat. The whole scenario A/B concept was incredible. Mr. X still scares the shite out of me. I'd pay $100 for that remake if that's what they charged. Big time memory from my childhood

hard nostalgia feels for me.

Ya and hopefully this open world shite gets phased out. Think people are finally getting fatigued

If it's done well like BOTW, I don't care
A good game is a good game but I get what you're saying

It's too bad I can't put final fantasy on this list, but in 2017 we're 2/2.

Not in the same ballpark as resident evil 7 or breath of the wild.
I just think that squaresofts hokey narratives were better suited to the 16 bit and 32 bit eras. Their character designs and game design techniques don't work in the modern era. Hope and Prompto are excruciating.
I liked square rpgs a hell of a lot better back in those days. Final fantasy iv-x, chrono trigger, and secret of mana. Take me back!

I bought FFXV on day one and I still haven't played it past the fix your car section. just don't grip me at all. Gonna wait until I have absolutely nothing to play

I think those narratives still work but they used multimedia marketing to do it. You have to watch the movie and the cartoons to understand the story. Bad decision IMO
Their stories were always convoluted but comprehensible. 13 &15 (to a lesser degree) are nonsense
