What's easier - repairing Obamacare or Repealing and Replacing?

If the end product is the same, shouldn't the method of getting there be the path of least resistance, one that takes the least amount of time, and uses the least amount of taxpayer dollars?
Dems are saying that they are open to "fixing" Obamacare. Why does everyone get so caught up in semantics and just find common ground / compromise to something that will pass a vote? Are Dems so caught up in keeping the name and legacy of Obamacare that they don't want it repealed? Are republicans so caught up in getting rid of the name "Obamacare" and putting something into place that they can claim as their own?

It can't be repaired. That's the problem

wouldn't a repair basically be the bill that just failed?

Why not? This is why I'm asking the question. Is it just impossible to repair and change it to the way that a majority vote can get behind? Or will it just take too much work and is easier to just repeal and replace with something new?
I'd assume it's the latter, but who knows?

It would be very easy to repair.

There was zero attempt made to engage with the Democrats on this legislation. It was intended as a finger in the eye of Democrats...That was about 90% of the point.

I was also against this bill but seriously what do you think the ACA was. The Dems didn't give a shite about the GOP with that bill.

You mean it would be very easy to move to single payer. When the ACA was first brought up alot of people said this is just a filler until they can get to single payer. Slow steps to socialism is the only way.

I am replying to a post that seemed confused over why the Dems didn't vote for the bill. I was explaining that.

The real question is why a conservative would support this bill at all.

end product not the same in desired outcome.
A. health plans
1. single payer for all who want it.
2. capitalist market for those who want it. let the buyer beware.
both come with death panels. no heart lung transplants for those over XX years.
B drug market
citizens may purchase drugs from anywhere on earth. let the buyer beware. FDA continues its job. NIH continues its job. CDC continues its job.
the single payer plan, Medicare/medicaid is allowed to negotiate group purchases of commonly used drugs.

No one should have supported it. It is objectively worse than the ACA in every way. Moderate Republicans and Dems should get together and make common sense fixes to ACA and move on.

Disagree. The government shouldn't have the authority to force citizens to do business with companies. The ACA needs to go. It making healthcare more expensive and adding 1.7 trillion worth of debt. So we are paying 1.7 trillion for a shite bill.

don't take it so personally. you are wrong. off by a mile.
this turned out terrible for Trump. he did not plan this.
adding the feature in which CEO's of health insurance companies are facilitated to get a 100% increase in salary from 500K to 1 M, and for CEOs to get stock options that are deductible (n which case, we the taxpayers foot the bill for the CEOs stock !!) was just your usual republican payoff to the corporate giants who own the members of the House. it was so egregious, that Trump was calling for immediate passage of the bill, BEFORE your grandma saw that CEOs made out like bandits, while her costs would go up significantly.

When you try to solve a problem that doesn't exist you end up creating many more.

quote:I prefer single payer personally. But something had to be done and single payer wasnt on the table. If the individual mandate is the problem with the ACA then someone needs to come up with an alternative that doesn't destroy the market. Healthy people have to buy insurance for the ACA to work.
The government shouldn't have the authority to force citizens to do business with companies.

It would be easy to repair/improve the ACA in its current form OR to move to single payor.
But Republicans lack the political ability to do either.

The government just needs to GTFO of healthcare, or at the very least, allow a panel of healthcare providers and insurers to set up a balanced system. What in the frick do a bunch of lawyers and lifelong politicians know about health care?
We need much more career variety as our elected officials. Anyone can learn parliamentary procedure, let's get people with actual life experience.

Hate single payer but I'd be willing to go with it if only US citizens received subsidized care. I want government out of healthcare altogether but neither party wants smaller government these days.

Whatever we do let's just stay as far away from Universal Healthcare as possible.
