I wonder if the writer realizes that this is a direct parody of the movie, "The Crying Game," and that is why that song is playing.

This was my fault. I'm not a huge fan of gay panic jokes because they are super lazy, but my God, this was a gay panic joke that was literally a parody of gay panic in a serious drama. I mean, it starts out literally as the same scene, then taken to absurd extremes. Are people not aware how parody works? Or are they just so cinematically ignorant?
