Serious question. What would his role be on an NFL team?

Director of Player Personnel? What does that entail?

From my little understanding he is a task manager, a very good one at that, and some sort of goofy recruiting savant/elite Madden player.

You're not understanding. It's been understood that his goal is the nfl and eventually be there, but we're leaving him out there to be taken sooner by underpaying. This has been made blatantly clear by people in the know.

You are not understanding. If the NFL comes calling and his true goal is to be a GM the amount of money lsu is paying him is irrelevant. He isn't getting closer to a GM job working at LSU than he would be if he was on a NFL staff somewhere where he also will get paid handsomely.

He makes 6 figures now. How much else do you want him to make?

For what he's accomplished he should be making at least 250K.

Must be more than that if he came back from USC.

Yea, he will go on an nfl staff sooner then by us not compensating him properly. This is being insinuated by insiders and mods in the know. Not me. But, I guess you have it all figured out so carry on.

He's actually probably better suited for the NFL, being that he's not an on field coach. I'm not sure if he can coach, if he can, then he deserves a position and a raise. If not, then I believe the NFL may be better for him, like a front office position or something.

If it's true he makes more than Ponamsky, that would be a big fricking shame. But I guess that's what you get with the good ole baw side of O.

He's recruiting for us on the road and got us 2 5* last cycle. That should be enough for a raise right there to get us a few more years before he jumps to the nfl.

His current salary was published as 125K when the new assistant contracts were announced.

LINK

He recieved a 25K raise from USC, and was given active recruiting duties. Moffit makes 400K for reference. Thomas should absolutely be making as much as Dennis Johnson, at 180K, IMO.

Here's a breakdown of what Bama and Clemson paid their support staff.

LINK

Keep in mind none of these guys actively recruit, and Austin Thomas under his current title fills several of the roles played by a couple different positions on these lists. Bama's paying over 180K for a guy with a lower title than Austin and Clemson has 3 guys over 200K. LSU should absolutely be doing more to keep a guy who not only hand delivered two 5 star players last year, but is on track to land a 5 star left tackle this year, as well as coordinating ALL the logistics of recruiting visits and camps. If LSU wants to keep up with top programs in CFB we have to pay good people what they're worth. We're not competing against the NFL for him right now, we're practically forcing him to court offers from other CFB programs.

I'm just passing the word to get it out there. Choose to believe it or don't, but if you're upset then go post on your facebook feed about it.

i have no reason to believe it or not because you have provided nothing except "word is..."

i don't facebook, but nice try

also, asking people to email and call about a raise for another man is really really weird. when you get a chance, please upload the video to youtube of your conversation. thanks.

It's coming from 247 guys who have demonstrated they're close to the program in the past. Austin is a very important piece to this staff. No LSU fan should want to see him go, especially to another college program. As outlined by the links above, he's not being paid competitively.
