$600,000 – more than three times the median American home price.

Even your article says they bought the house with inheritance money. I'm lost as to how this troubles anyone.

U.S. Presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) called today for lowering the amount individuals can shield from the federal estate tax, and hiking estate tax rates across the board, as he introduced the Responsible Estate Tax Act. “This is a piece of legislation that addresses what I consider to be the most significant moral issue of our time,” he said at a press conference in Washington, D.C., citing growing economic inequality.

I'm making an argument that there is no conflict with being wealthy and being socialist.
The Scandinavian countries aren't really socialist. They are republics with market economic systems that have large public redistribution systems - none of which are characteristics of a socialist state.
And there is a major cap on their economic growth. They have incrediblly small populations and constant culture which allow people to live comfortably but not wealthy

This is pretty dumb 1) He's selling a property that his wife inherited to buy this. 2) as the article pointed out, he's still one of the poorest members of the senate. $600,000 is chump change for someone like Trump.
1 - Who bought it
2 - What was actual market value?
Those answers might clear up the issue a bit, or open a different can of worms

they're not all exactly the same, but Sweden has benefited from some major corporations being established there and Norway is a petro state
Norway is 12 in PCGDP and Sweden is way down at 25, with Denmark at 31 and Finland at 40. not bad but there is clearly economic distinctions among the 4 states
and just so we're all clear, the US is 18 with an underclass about 4x more populous than the entirety of Scaninavia (probably about 1/3 of our total population and maybe closer to 1/4)

Since when has he pretended to be a poor working class guy? You can't be well off and want gov't to have programs for those less fortunate?
Well he directly demonizes the capitalistic system he benefits from and was a pioneer in the nonsensical "fair share" mantra despite not personally practicing what he calls for.
I have no problem with him being wealthy; I have a problem with him being a hypocrite and directly benefiting from his hypocritical positions.

True, but in terms of macrostatistics, nothing has increased the standard of living for humanity more than capitalism.

well on the economic spectrum, capitalism is on the "freedom" side of the spectrum
it's actually one of those funny things where if you use a softer word, more people agree with you. if you say you believe in "free trade", you're much more likely to have a leftist-leaning person agree with it than if you say "capitalism" (although the Trumpkins are engaging on their own war on the term "free trade" so it's not as effective that way anymore)

Correct. Most leftist aren't against capitalism; they just don't understand what it means. They actually want capitalism with government forced, massive redistribution systems. Somewhere along the way, someone not-in-the-know started calling that socialism.

yeah when i wear my "Taxation is theft" gear i sometimes get into random conversations about it and i have to explain that i'm not that hardline anarchist (or "big L" libertarian). it's the redistribution schemes that i have a problem with, and that applies all the way to tax credits and policy-based deductions in our taxation system
NPR's Planet Money actually did a good piece on the labeling/selling of policies a few years back. one of the subjects they used as an example was the mortgage deduction and that was funny to listen to the reaction of people.
the most infuriating policy where people just simply don't get it is medicaid. i can't tell you how many times i've met people who post shite about how they work for a living blah blah on FB and then pop out a new kid and post "anybody know a doctor that accepts a medical card in [area]?"

Socialists have to be poor? What did I miss?
They don't have to be poor, but shouldn't they be giving it away to the poor, so they can be equal?
He wanted all wealthy people to pay more taxes, yet between Obama, Clinton, Trump and him....he paid the fewest taxes by percentage. Seems odd, don't you think?
Posted on 3/19/17 at 5:32 pm to Dr RC
Well it is a problem when we can't afford to do all those nice things for the poor. I would love to help everyone out. But that doesn't mean it will work. The current way is clearly not working (the current debt deficit). It won't work if we continue to just tax the frick out of people. Also isn't that why we made the Declaration of Independence and broke away from England? Taxation without representation.

Except your comparison is not correct. Instead, you should be comparing Bernie to the common man he pretends to be. And to that person, $600,000 a year is plenty rich.
Not to mention the timing was not good for Sanders and his Bots. Seems it was right after the fixed Dim primary was all but given to HRC and damn if Sanders does not throw his support to the biggest recipient of Wall Street cash, boom, he's buying a lake home shortly thereafter, not a good look. How much did Sander's wife get for the home she inherited?
