Any body know why this guy has not been charged with murder? Is it odd that he was booked on charges that the officer was investigating, but paper said he hasn't been charged with murder due to pending investigation. Since when do they wait to file charges until an investigation has been conducted?

Maybe they are determining whether it should be 1st or 2nd degree murder. He may be in the hospital a while so there's no rush.

His bail was at $475,000. I doubt he's going anywhere. If it looks like he's going to post bond, I'm sure they'll charge him for the homicide and get his bail increased.
Edit: The info above about the bail amount is wrong. I had Wiley mixed up with Herrara, KKG kidnapper.
In the meantime, I guess the DA's office is taking their time to charge him with the most appropriate crime. If he shot the deputy, I'm sure that'll be 1st or 2nd Degree Murder. (I think in LA killing an LEO is considered "special circumstance" and allows the charge of 1st Degree Murder.)
If during the altercation, the Deputy was shot by the other Deputy or was somehow killed by his own gun, I'm not sure what will happen as far as a homicide charge goes. But what WON'T happen is this guy going home. He'll either die of his wounds or end up in Angola.
