Like the meager subsidy for Meals on Wheels, which delivers meals to the homes of elderly shut ins.
Which use to be done by family and friends of that needy person but America got lazy and opted for the government taking over their empathy for those needy people.

How many people borrow money to pay their cable TV bill? Constantly borrow money to pay it, over and over? I am certain there are some that do, whether directly or indirectly but most people with common sense are going to cut the cable TV off when/if they cannot afford it.
Besides the fact that many of these programs and agencies are duplicated in another program or agency, we are borrowing money to pay for "nice things" that make some folks feel all warm and fuzzy. Government at all levels has a spending problem and they really need to get back to being stewards of the taxpayer's money, rather than a teenager with daddy's credit card.
If a program is redundant or duplicated somewhere else, it should be cut first. Then you focus in on waste in the remaining programs and cut that crap out. Everyone throws the "military" up in this argument but a lot of the redundancy/duplicated effort across the services have been consolidated over the last 10 to 15 years. More can be done to cut out the duplication of effort - IE The Army flies more rotary wing aircraft than all of the other services, so entry level flight training for all services should be consolidated under the Army for all branches. Just like the AF flies more fixed wing aircraft than the other services, so fixed wing entry level flight training should be consolidated under the AF. However, when it comes to the cutting the legislators in those districts where slots will be cut will scream and holler and come up with every excuse under the sun why this won't work.
